As my listeners, readers, and clients know, I’m big on perspective. Everything we do today for our clients in the trenches at Keen Wealth requires a broad perspective that allows my team to see where the market has been, and prepare our clients for where it might be headed.

In my presentation, I gave a brief overview of recent global turbulence as it related to fluctuations within the market. I also discussed the market reaction when North Korea crossed the 38th parallel in 1950 and related that to where we are today. And with this perspective, we can see that despite the unrest we seem to be living with daily, the markets have been resilient.

Long-term, the capital markets are a powerful wealth-building vehicle, but that growth will never look like a straight line, even as the big picture trends upwards. There will be peaks and there will be valleys. Volatility is just one of the “taxes” we pay for investing in the markets. We believe that folks who accept that and follow the measured investment strategies we provide at Keen Wealth are positioning themselves for positive financial futures.

Part 2 – Matt Wilson

Matt’s presentation, entitled “Focus on the Fundamentals,” gave an outstanding overview of some of the key metrics that drove 2017’s strong markets. 2017 closed as one of the least volatile years on record, and globally, 70 of 76 markets ended positive for the year. As always, it’s not politics, presidential approval ratings, or emotional investors who are powering the economy, but fundamental figures like strong corporate earnings and consumer balance sheets. These metrics are what you should focus on when considering your investment strategies – not the news of the day.

Thank you again to everyone who attended our Holiday Breakfast. We look forward to working with all of you to make 2018 another successful year.
